Tips for Making Better Decisions
Decide who owns the decision—the leader, a group, or an individual.
Decide on the goal. What are you trying to achieve in an overall sense, not just the short-term?
Frame the problem. Put the problem or decision into one sentence that does not imply a solution.
Know what you are looking for and train your eyes to see it—recognize threats and opportunities.
Develop or pay for an outsider’s perspective that gives you a new or different slant.
Separate “wants” from “must haves.”
Make sure you seek and hear disconfirming evidence.
Think about the full context of the situation, without overemphasizing one focal event.
Ask for information explicitly.
Create a culture that makes information sharing the default position.
